Container Gardening with Window Boxes

Another form of container gardening with vegetable plants for those who live in areas with limited yard space, or those who just love the look, is window boxes. Another bonus is the ease of reaching these cute little flower boxes from inside of your window. You do not want to over-water your windowbox-vegetable garden. Root vegetables, especially, do not require much tending, making them easy for busy or novice vegetable gardeners.

Windowbox herb gardens are also another popular gardening trend. You can plant a small herb garden right outside of your kitchen window in a window box or wooden planter and when you need just a nip of parsley or cloves, just pop open the window and snip some fresh!

Just like a regular home vegetable gardens, this form of container gardening requires some form of vegetable garden layout or planning, with the bigger vegetable plants or herbs in the back. Start planting vegetables from the middle and work your way out to the ends of the window box or wooden planters.
